Very important point: SoftBank was pledging *all* of its OpenAI stock (worth $60bn+ on paper) to get a $6 billion margin loan. Banks turned it down due to concerns about the value of OpenAI stock. Banks clearly do not think OpenAI is worth $852 billion. www.tradingkey.com/analysis/sto...

Seems unwise trying to get fiat money instead of a stake in a beautiful, trustworthy company like OpenAI, or even a real asset like the Brooklyn bridge

masayoshi son really wants to reclaim his top spot on the largest individual loss of wealth list, but elon put up some pretty untouchable numbers

do some digging into AI Datacenter bonds that are A graded by rating agencies and sold to pension funds, yet they are paying junk bond level interests of 8-12%! Reminds you of something else? Yes.. 2008 :)

Def not good for SoftBank, but it seems like the collateral is wrong for the risk. If SoftBank defaults, it's likely because OpenAI defaulted (making the collateral stake worth less). Collateral has to be priced as though the default will happen. This is closer to a loan stock scenario.

It's a bad financial structure for lenders: SoftBank is acting like a guarantor for OpenAI, but the only backstop offered IS OpenAI. Better to lend directly to OpenAI and be a creditor instead of a shareholder if they default. The collateral stock is priced accordingly--as though OpenAI defaulted.
