This might be the longest piece of writing where I've agreed fully with every single sentence up to the end. Thank you for articulating all of this so clearly (also i hadn't considered that link with the hopes of bitcoin also being sunk into Whatever)

Also, “What I *do* know is that a table saw quickly cuts straight lines” is such a mood, especially when talking about computers: those machines are made to deal efficiently with precise data, why use them to convert data into untraceable sludge -_-

wow that's a whole thing i forgot to say actually, that computers are wonderfully precise and we keep making them worse at it

I have a theory that it's exactly the point. I think you and I are into computers because of the preciseness of the results and what they can do. But keep in mind that there are millions of people who hate computers: because it's "cold" or "soulless"

Before ChatGPT, have you ever seen someone type clumsily a full sentence to Google, like "What will be the weather tomorrow?" punctuation included, while reading it out loud? Because I have.

I do believe that part of the goal with AI products is to attract computers to the kind of people who would rather ask questions naturally and get an answer just like a human would. It's to parse and generate natural language, "natural" as it's our nature to communicate with this language.

For many people, it's so much more natural to communicate like that - to have the computer understand the user, instead of the user having to figure out how to use the computer.
