I am definitely one of the people who didn’t appreciate “get away from her, you bitch” in Alien Romulus as a callback When Ripley says it to the Queen Alien, like, right, it’s a Queen. Juxtaposition, etc. Badass line When Andy says it in Romulus, he is just calling the alien a bitch. Well ok Andy

I have a theory - the crewmate who's aggressively hostile towards Andy calls him a bitch twice. I read it as a justification to have him use that word later, but it didn't register as such on a first viewing. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a deleted scene or two where this is even more overt.

I loved Alien Romulus. If I think it suffers from a lot of modern franchise movies where it’s at its weakest when it’s referencing the franchise directly. “Here’s the black goo. FROM PROMETHEUS.” Right yeah I got it. It was good enough that you had it. Hell, let me figure that out later!

Man, I still hate how Prometheus and the subsequent movies just ruined the Alien series for me. Why the hell do writers insist on explain what doesn’t need to be explained?

Right! Like even the engineer/space pilot was interesting and foreboding and you have no idea what he/it is or how it’s connected and it’s so much better than “oh they are kinda just space assholes”

Funnily, every reference to Alien Isolation in perfect. It’s like not pointed out, it’s there and if you’re fan, you notice But the previous movie stuff is like - it’s brought together well but they keep doing “ah a pulse rifle, like the kind the Colonial Marines use! WINK”

And a coworker complained that Alien Resurrection already had a final monster like that but come on, Romulus’ Offspring absolutely outclasses that other idiot

i remember when the trailer first dropped that i thought they were just making an alien isolation movie, and then putting it out of my head until after i saw the movie where the director said "yeah that game ruled it influenced the movie a lot." now i wanna go back exclusively to spot that stuff

Or Evil Dead Rise - another fantastic movie - where the deadites chant “dead by dawn!” in one part. Like Ash isn’t here. Is this just a catchphrase? I remember the other movies, we’re good. Stop!

They also really didn't have to deepfake that dead actor to play that one android. Like there was no reason they couldn't have just used an actor rather than "REMEMBER BISHOP?!"

Honestly I was fine with the others - it’s just that one that seemed really out of character for Andy and then that makes you start thinking about everything else

Romulus was a movie I liked less and less as I watched it. It has a lot of cool setpieces but some of the most hamfisted and self-referential writing that shows how desperate it is for you to remember the classics. Also Andy’s Good Disabled Person Becomes Evil When “Fixed” plotline was uncomfortable

There was this pause between the two halves of the line delivery and I really think it would have been better if they just stopped there I felt like that guy who was told he had a nice hat must have felt before "for a clown to wear, to the circus" was added. The robot said you bitch, and, noooooo
