I get totally sick of people saying it is all the oil companies fault and no one told us. BS, you all knew and went ahead anyway….with good reason….the industrial revolution lifted billions out of starvation and poverty….only now we gotta pay the piper…and stop blaming the piper

No need to debate precedence, just the need to act: every country; every person - this is an emergency. Much climate change is already ‘baked in’. Re-inventing our energy policy will ameliorate our grandchildren’s and their grandchildren’s future. Must act now, as we’ve been told for decades now.

Proof that humanity’s greatest talent isn't innovation, but the ability to stare at a warning light for over a century and collectively decide it’s just a "feature" of the system.

1912 is wild. Svante Arrhenius had the math. We had a century of perfect information and chose... this. The lag between knowing and acting might be the actual story.

The wild part: we had the physics nailed down by 1896 (Arrhenius). A century of "we know" followed by a century of "but what if we don't act yet." Inertia isn't ignorance, it's incentive structure.

The first to prove the "power" of CO2 was Eunice Foote in 1886. In 1896, Arrhenius related the rising of CO2 in the atmosphere to the rising of global temperature (and was awarded a Nobel prize).

700 years ago they knew it was bad. "In 1306, King Edward I of England passed what’s often considered the first environmental law, when he made a proclamation banning coal burning." They didn't understand the details back then, but we still have idiots who don't believe it.

And more than a century and a truck load of extra data later, there are many that still deny it. The ones that push climate change as a "hoax" are the ones making money off what causes the warming. They probably know, but don't care.

Just like fucking tobacco, cigarette companie lobbyists. Coal industry, Oil industries, chemical industries, predatory capitalism is why we must have unions and enforce anti-trust laws!!!

Well Republicans didn't want to hear it back then and they still going here cause they own all the refineries so they don't care just like the weapon trees they own most of those too so they don't care that pro-war and pro destruction we need to eradicate that off Earth

barely none, as it doesn't stay in the atmosphere for long and quickly fall in rain. Where as CO2 stays for hundreds of thousands years.

on the other had, increased water evaporation dues to CO2 warming amplifies the warning, like melting ice pols amplifies it by lowering albedos of earth.

I have heard reports from a similar newspaper story dating back to 1888 but haven't been able to track it down. As of today we will reach 2.2 degrees by 2100. All glaciers will be gone from Europe, the USA and the Andes. By 2050 droughts will cause mass migration in the USA and with food shortages..

Shame our reaction could not be a little quicker. Looking at this nice cool summer (wait til you see what's coming!) I reckon we'll only start really reacting when profits get seriously impacted. Hope mankind survives.. .

sadly this is true but probably got little attention as it was a New Zealand paper. The Waitemata and Kaipara Gazette (officially the Rodney and Otamatea Times, Waitemata and Kaipara Gazette) was a historic New Zealand regional newspaper.

He knew exactly what was happening just with coal burning 🔥 he didn’t add in the internal combustion engines of all those billions of vehicles and machines we run today!! Not much time left to get to the CINDER state

RACHEL CARLSON WROTE THE BOOK "SILENT SPRING" AND NO ONE WANTED TO PAY ATTENTION TO HER WARNINGS ABOUT NOT PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT BECAUSE OF CORPORATION GREED... AND MOST OF ALL BECAUSE SHE WAS AN INTELLIGENT WOMAN WHO KNEW WTH SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT AND THEY COULDN'T HAVE 'THAT'.. SMH..

Sure, but we’be known about global warming and our negative impact on the planet since as early as the 20s, and yet we have done nothing to reverse our effects. We can get ourselves out, sure, but that would require a concentrated effort from everyone

fun fact...the continent of Europe went into full blown existential panic in 1911 after news from a returning expedition that an enormous ice island had carved off of the ice sheet in Antarctica. This mindlessness is nothing new.
