it would be an insanely uphill battle (because the GOP knows this) but DC statehood would be a legit power swing for the democrats. house rep (that can actually VOTE unlike currently) and 2 actual senators from a place that voted 90% blue (and only 6% trump) in 2024

Buttigieg: We sit in a in a country that's got the wrong number of people on the Supreme Court, possibly the wrong number of representatives in the House of Representatives. And by the way, when you consider the disenfranchisement of the people of DC, we have the wrong number of states in the US

being from DC i don’t think a lot of people realize how fucking deep blue the city proper is. multiple percentage points bluer than Manhattan, Portland, lots of “liberal enclaves”

also for the people talking about making DC part of MD or VA, man, go up to a native and tell them they “basically live in Maryland” and see how that goes for you. there would be city-wide protests and I don’t think I’m exaggerating
