Started rewatching an LP of Void Stranger and I'm instantly really happy that I can skip ahead I like sokobans a lot in general but the puzzle design in this game is like. The complete opposite of what I like

There's SOME puzzles there that I really like, but mostly they just feel really tedious and like running through a mental checklist

Man. I'm sorry to be so negative about it. But it's hard for me to stop rotating Void Stranger in my mind. Like it's SO CLOSE to being good. It does so many cool things. If it was also good then it would be like one of my favourite games ever. And that's really frustrating

I love void stranger so much... it's a genuinely fun sokoban but the deeper you get the more tedious and tiring the game becomes... and i love that... i value emotional experience above all else and i personally find it awesome when games aren't afraid to be boring and tiring asf to sell a feeling

Did i actually Enjoy every hour of void stranger i played? Hell no. Am i really glad that i went through the endless trouble that was solving the game with no guides? Hell yes. It was so worth it

this is exactly how i felt trying it out last year, felt like i was chewing cardboard for a few minutes of interesting Meta Fuckery. i really don't like puzzle design where it feels like you need to follow a prescriptive list of actions that the developer put down

Exactly yeah I'm also not a big fan of the meta fuckery because the riddles are ALSO really tedious to solve. Almost by design really, because with a game with this structure the only way to try a new thing to see if it works is to repeat a bunch of content

(Also there's one specific riddle that I reeeeeally hate. Like I didn't even have to solve it and just the IDEA of getting stuck because of it pisses me off)
