It may sound like semantics, but my take is that these men would consider themselves 'Hispanic' and not 'Latino' - the former connects them to European 'whiteness' in a manner that Latino does not. It matters that a large number of ppls of 'Latin America' consider themselves white.

If you’ve ever met or spent time with Latinos it makes perfect sense. I don’t know how else to describe Latino culture. A lot like American culture - we all are Americans after all, both North and South Americans.

For some reason I saved this quite a while back and I think it illustrates the hypocrisy fairly well. A Latino with an accent being arrested by a Latino with an accent.
