how long until companies start mentioning "unlimited claude code use" as a perk in job descriptions?

I just left a job (this month!) in large part for reasons that look like this. i.e. "The shape of the work of building software systems is changing, and I need to be somewhere that will let me explore that new shape."

whoa. firstly well done, that must've taken courage. secondly, was your company not onboard with people using claude code et al?

Like any company, it was a mix. Some folks thought we could cut costs by having all devs on the free gemini-cli plan that came w/ our google contract. Some thought letting devs have either a $20/mo Copilot or Codex sub was good. Some wanted to get Builder/Lovable through procurement. A\ was a no

Leadership was really bought in on the power of code assistants, but I think they wanted to see saturation of the tools everyone had before they let anyone have more, which is just not how people work. If you're not getting value out of copilot you aren't going to saturate it.

uh yeah. so dumb. i only really started using AI for programming in earnest since opus 4.5. the difference being: before 4.5 came out, using AI made programming slower and more annoying than doing it myself. after it came out it made programming faster and nicer than doing it myself.
