there's a mobile game in CN i played for a while that really made me feel the "game with checkboxes from other games" as a player 云梦之星 (or DreamStar) by tencent is a little bit of everything. they have an ACNH town builder, a farming game, a MOBA, and fall guys esque challenges

i played this for a solid month and spent $ because i love nobeko n they had a collab on paper, it has all the features you would expect from the genres. the graphics are cute, there's fun multi functions like co-watching videos in player housing, etc. but it was unbelievably boring to me

i think story, lore, world building, etc are one of those things that are overlooked in genres like base building and life sims because we assume simulation -> player headcanon, but YMZX made me realize no XD after the initial "aww", it was completely devoid of any meaning

i had no motivation to do anything. it's purely just number go up. my brain isn't broken enough yet that it was satisfying/entertaining so ya i'm not rly going anywhere with this, i'm still thinking about what it means to have fun and how games deliver emotions. thanks for reading my thinkslop

I think there’s a ton of value in thinking out loud. Only talking about stuff when you have the “answer” feels like a good way not to find a lot of answers lol. I think recognizing a problem even if you don’t fully get why is great, and for the record I’ve experienced this too!
