This is the best article written about the Jaylen Brown trade. Another player where there is a significant mismatch between raw stats and analytics - Jalen Johnson. The big difference is that JJ is much younger and on a $30M/year contract, as opposed to a $60M/year contract.

My reaction is to the idea of an asset to the team, yes or no. Stats don't always reflect that but, I've often watch a game where I end up asking - yes - X number of points but, how many points did that player cost the team? On offense, on defense, to the overall effort? Not mentioning names.

My irrational take is I'm ok with my baseball team being good but not winning the championship because of variance but with the NBA too many teams make the playoffs to make moves as if they don't believe they can win a title in any given year. And then want fans to buy in

Thanks for confirming I wasn't taking crazy pills when I thought some picks and getting off a not great contract a year earlier seemed like a decent return.

This really doesn't explain this year though. No JT and they were still the 2nd seed. JB has his best season ever. There's a correlation there. Also JB was the one player who could drive to the rim and not let teams just sit out at the 3pt line to defend. His 7.5 FT attempts attest to this.
