i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides

Go a bit further back, and you get to the era when steam engines drove trains, riverboats, and powerhouses…. and occassionally exploded. Back in the day, “engineer” meant “one who was trained to run the engine” and it was a big deal because fucking up meant that they and everyone else nearby died.
