We're doing a huge disservice to kids (and young adults) by shielding them from everything that might be 'too hard' or 'too difficult'. They can figure that out for themselves, challenge is good!

btw I read The Lord of the Rings when I was 12. Obviously not a children's book, and I did miss a lot of the nuance, but I could read it.
