The core of existential despair is contained within the fact that we only get to live once. Life comes and goes, each minute never to return. And the worst part is, none of our life gets to be lived in the Sombrero Galaxy.

Not only do we not get to live in Sombrereo Galaxy, but the life living in Sombrero Galaxy is completely unaware that they are in Sombrero Galaxy. They probably call it something super lame based on some dumb mythology

They use a method called stacking, at least the “amateurs” do. A real image in a backyard telescope is like a star with haze around it.

Those effects actually look like the natural lens and camera effects from Hubble, although some advanced sharpening filters appear to be applied. I believe "Real Color" color matching is typically used where out-of-spectrum data is used to enhance contrast and color to the visible spectrum data.

The current primary camera is the Wide Field Camera 3. This camera can operate in several modes.  It can use either fixed frequency filters, wide spectrum monochrome, or utilize a prism array to do either simple spectography of a single spot or imaging spectrography.

When you look at the Sombrero Galaxy the Sombrero Galaxy looks into you. Our sole purpose of existence is to determine the existence of the Sombrero Galaxy.

I too was overcome with existential futility when I first saw this image. That this beauty was out there in the universe, probably commonplace, and that we'd never get to experience it except though tiny images that are millennia out of date by the time they reach us
