Very Ukrainian accent: "Oh Mr Vance, is it hard to negotiate peace? Is it difficult to come to a deal when both sides have fundamentally irreconcilable positions on key issues? Does not being able to trust your counterparty make things tricky? Why do you hate peace, Mr Vance?"

Both sides have irreconcilable starting positions. Iran likely wants its nuclear material, control of the strait, reparations and lifting of sanctions. US likely wants end of nuclear program, end of missile program, no control of the strait, no reparations and continued support for Israel.

The nuclear thing is mainly so they can persuade Israel and US to stop attacking them. If the US and Israel can credibly guarantee that then they might give it up (as they did in last deal). Credibly might be the sticking point.

There is no thing as an American brokered peace. Peace building is the permanent end of war, cooperation, community, human rights and sustainable development. Peace building is tabula rasa diplomacy, consensus building for win/win, use of the military to save lives instead of killing people.
