Everyone is rightly focused on his "low wage foreigners" comment but I'm infuriated by the "we're going to restore dignity to the working class by bringing back manufacturing." NO YOU WON'T. MASS HIGH WAGE FACTORY EMPLOYMENT FOR NON-COLLEGE EDUCATED WORKERS IS NOT COMING BACK. YOU KNOW THIS.

JD Vance says his faith makes him averse to “low wage foreigners”

Modern factories do not lucratively employ half the men in the town straight out of high school to work an assembly line on union contracts. That was a weird blip in the 1950's when automation hadn't taken off yet and the US was the only country in the world whose factories weren't blown to shit.

It just makes me so mad because, as much as I loathe talk about 'economic anxiety' I can hardly blame people for expecting mass manufacturing jobs to magically re-appear when POLITICIANS KEEP PROMISING THAT. Makes me so mad I want to write a book. (This book). www.amazon.com/dp/191448711...

I enjoyed this. If it’s not manufacturing, what are the alternatives? Care? Energy/Infrastructure? Services? Perhaps they aren’t as palatable as the perception of a factory job?

It's almost certainly services (which include everything you listed). Manufacturing + Farms employ like 9-11% of Americans and that number is not likely to go up. Most people do and will work in services and that's... not a bad thing just because we've gendered ourselves into thinking it is.
