Anthony Blinken was explicitly calling the actions of the RSF and SAF in Sudan a genocide all the way back in January. Which people who’d actually been paying attention to the situation in Sudan before now (when it’s handy to use it Sudan as a rhetorical gotcha against Gaza protesters) would know.

10,000 dead in a few days, and the Yale Daily News calls it genoc no wait *touches earpiece* I'm being informed that the term this time is "mass killings" Huh. Interesting.

The Yale Humanitarian Research lab, where my former boss and a number of my former colleagues now work - all people I know very well and greatly respect - welcomed the genocide determination from Blinken back in January in a statement.

Here is language from the Yale HRL lab describing their analysis of the El Fasher massacre in Sudan from Oct 27th, which states *these specific events* “may rise to the level of genocide. This is *extremely normal* word-choice for an event that is very recent and is still being investigated.

Nowhere does this statement by Blinken declare tthe SAF's actions to be genocide. The Sudanese Armed Forces are not a militia at all, much less an RSF aligned militia. In fact the SAF is the main force fighting against the RSF.
