I’m honestly baffled by all those people who think that age verification, which requires widespread collection of personal data, is anything to root for. How many more foreign governments and corporations must I send my passport to, hoping they won’t abuse that level of power over my identity?

Not to mention one insidious side of ID verification: most ID verification services refuse *all forms of Malagasy IDs* except for a passport, which is the most difficult to obtain. I literally had to *lie to my government* at the time to get a passport, just so I wouldn’t lose access to my Patreon!

(I should add that now, even without the restriction on who can get a passport, the process still requires the applicant to present themselves at one specific building in Antananarivo a minimum of three mornings in a row, plus paying some hefty “processing” fees.)

Not the case anymore right now, but at the time, for reasons that are still unclear to me, the government decided to issue passports only to people who could prove an imminent need to travel abroad. I had to get fake paperwork “proving” that my French relatives had already bought my plane tickets.
