No, I do not agree with this opinion and I think it’s very bad that many Americans seem to think (incorrectly) that our privacy is already hopelessly compromised by evil tech companies and the government, and that there’s no point in fighting back.

I think I agree with you, but also the answer isn't "punish Chinese companies to keep them from also doing this", it's "make a strong data privacy law".
