Sometimes I’m reminded that many people still assume that the United States is still overwhelmingly the global leader and innovator in drone technology (both military and civilian), and hoo boy

as inspired by well meaning people asking if we can stop all these drone attacks on civilians by leaning on big U.S. defense companies (no, that didn’t exactly work in the GWOT days and it REALLY won’t work now)

We probably SHOULD be yelling at Baykar more from a “people are using your drones to bomb civilian huts” perspective, but they are unfortunately also a drop in in the overall bucket

Anduril and Hegseth and the Trump Large Adult Sons and the attendant remoras that feed upon them absolutely do WANT you to believe the U.S. is still the overwhelming global drone innovation leader (but that is not true).

The U.S. is shoveling tons of money at drones right now but the problem is that that money is very largely going to dumb assholes who are good at marketing to other dumb assholes

We could’ve bought Ukraine’s interceptor drone tech but instead we gave the money to a vaporware startup with as far as I can tell zero manufacturing capacity because it added Don Junior to its board

Hegseth believes in special forces and manly men warfighters, and Trump believes in gigantic capital ships with his name on them and steam catapults. We're fucking hosed

Yup, this. They have no concept of what modern warfare is (or even just non-vintage warfare at this point TBH). They also have the strategic vision and understanding of a braindead gnat and absolutely zero understanding that 99.9% of what makes a functional military is fucking LOGISTICS...
