I agree. I have tried that several times (I got the idea from Fawn). It gives each individual a little time to process before jumping into "groupthink".

Agree that individual thinking time is essential. I've heard Ts say "don't steal another student's chance to think" by talking/sharing too soon.

In my summer school computer programming class right now, I have told students that when I ask a question, I am not looking for answers. Instead I am looking for thinking. So do not raise your hands and do not shout out answers. Just think.
