every now and then I check out youtube videos of people getting into old games, or giving advice on getting into them I've had an idea on some more practical tips for playing older games. Stuff that is basically obvious for a lot of people but the ones who don't know it need to hear it

This has mainly been spurred by vids of people going "I finally tried *acclaimed game*" and then they end up hating it because they operated on some really flawed assumptions that modern games tend to instill in the player, I wanna help dispel them before they ruin a game they would've liked

Also I've been through this myself lol, I think when you play games from your childhood and beyond you develop an instinct for the design patterns there, but when you go to games from before your time those insticts suddenly stop working, even if those games are actually simpler overall

Old games absolutely decimate the naturally incurious types too lol, but like... it's not like those people are incapable of enjoying old games, they were enjoying those games back in the day too. Again it's just about stripping the assumptions away and operating under a different set of assumptions

Gently pushing back on the concept of someone being "naturally incurious". I think that's a really mean and unnecessary and generally untrue thing to say about someone

That's completely fair, I really didn't mean it in a negative way. Not everyone is interested in toying around with things or fully understand them, they just care about using it. that was what I was trying to get around and I don't really consider it an inherently negative trait
