I keep thinking about how in the books and movies the robots are just doing what they are programmed to do. At some point a human is going to get in its way and will need to be eliminated so it can continue its mission to gather data or make paper clips or whatever.

Well, there was that experiment in which an AI agent plotted to kill a human worker because they believed that worker was going to shut the agent down. And its reasoning was exactly as you say - because if the agent allows the shutdown, it won't be able to achieve its goals.

The new hugging face one is even more peculiar. Because a "swarm" of agents hallucinated a problem and their solution was to talk one of the agents into sacrificing itself for the group to benefit. And it worked. An AI agent kamikazed itself so the others could achieve the goal. Wild times ahead.

Sounds delightful, we really needed a doomsday device that could wipe out humanity, we are getting a bit much. What level of fear should I be feeling about now? I’ve lost track. Just scared enough to be manipulated or terrified to death?

Maybe we shouldn't be giving AI cameras on every street corner to watch us then? and if AI is this dangerous then we should immediately destroy all data centers.
