Freedom of expression doesn't mean freedom from consequence. If your statement makes someone angry, makes someone dissociate from you, makes someone feel hostile toward you - that's the consequential risk of free expression. They can't harm you without their own consequences. It's a tradeoff.

Also, opinions are only valid so far as they don't harm other people. You are free to hate the color orange. You don't get to fire someone because they are wearing an orange shirt.

A right to an opinion is not an academic law, it's unwritten. The constitution is for the state to tell the people how they must behave, you know, like children because you cannot figure it out for yourselves, the constitution is nothing more than another bible.

For example the EARTH is not flat, end of that opinion!! The earth is round just like every other planet or celestial body, as the example of FACT.

I don't often see people complain about being ignored or ridiculed, but I see people complain being banned from social media, losing their job, being defamed, doxxed, threatened, or physically attacked.

👍 My husband's favorite saying. I've been tempted to say it at a city council meeting a couple of times.

No one did that to drumpf. And it should have been done by everyone in the 80s. If I could see that back then in my 20s (and I'm really not all that smart or educated) why couldn't more? To shut that asshat douche canoe down? Also, felon, rapist, racist.

I agree that there is a loud component to society that feel that their magic opinions aren’t receiving sufficient attention, despite their protests and campaigns because, if their opinions had proper support, then the rest of us would have adopted their ways and then they could go on their way.

Agreed, I’ve spewed plenty of nonsense and get called out for it, get pissed and feel embarrassment but that is something that should remain as it is part of the equation in a free society. Without shame we see how hateful the world becomes, without humility arrogance reigns and humanity diminishes.

Coming from a man who helped silence a friend, as his wife is a rabid TERF. He was my guilty geek crush, and have seen his and Robin's show live several times. Now he is morally bankrupt, I'd rather wait in eternity for the heat death of the universe, then watch anything with his involvement.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.

We have to separate terms. An emotional reaction vs an educated, thoughtful, researched response. You can have emotions, but they don't outweigh the results of ethics, reason, and research.

You get to feel however you feel, and those feelings are real and valid (though sometimes it would be good to examine why you feel that way). What you do not get to do is use those feelings to justify harming other people, or to represent those feelings as facts.

I always loved Patton Oswalt's response to the idea that "you have to respect people's beliefs": "No, you have to ACKNOWLEDGE people's beliefs. And you have every right to say, 'I know you believe that. It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.'"

Serial scofflaw & adjudicated rapist, Trump, with sycophants, petty tyrants & thugs in support have assaulted, raped & tortured Lady Liberty with impunity, blatantly thumbing their noses at the rule of law. Judicial justice denied is unacceptable.

when white privileged conservative rich males have an opinion they think it's just a few votes way from becoming law, or deserves some big lucrative gov't contract to make it a reality.

People don't have the right to free expression. Politicians, professors, students, media personalities who speak up have been and will be eliminated. I love when we send our ex-IDF boys in the USA to college campuses to beat-up Palestinian protestors and then the govt convicts the protestors. 🙃
