Still going to mainly use LuaJit, so porting shouldn't be too difficult. My framework itself will be written in C meanwhile.

Reason for the jump has been the recent big "drivers" bug I had to investigate on both Nvidia and AMD drivers on Linux. Was very tedious not to own the whole stack.

So after spending a few days writing and migrating to the new layer, I got the realization that modern GPU rendering is like "you need A, and but B too, and both need C before that". Aka Factorio but less fun.

"This thing is static, this one can be dynamic but nobody care. Also yeah you need caching and to ship bytecode shader." What a mess, I miss OpenGL already.

A month later and I finally have a render ! Still plenty of code to migrate, but I'm happy to have the depth prepass and ssao working (now on SDL_GPU) !

On the plus side, the target is very slow moving these days so once you've abstracted your desired featureset you're pretty much done with the graphics backend.
