I know it's gauche to mention it, but JFC, the bsky web UI is shockingly slow. 2MB of JS to render a timeline, not a PWA, larded up with workarounds for Safari bugs which make scrolling everywhere else worse...just...*sigh*. Thankfully, @mary.my.id's excellent Skeetdeck exists: skeetdeck.pages.dev

On my Android phone (Pixel 3a), Elk-in-Chrome is faster than the Bluesky React Native app. The Bluesky app mostly works, but there are semi-regular stutters (dunno if from main thread CPU usage or GC or both).

I find the bsky web app way snappier than both X or Mastodon on my phone. Am I missing something?

The X web app (built with react-native-web I think?) was slow too on my phone. Elk (web app running in Chrome) does better than both the X web app and the Bluesky native one (which uses React Native). I haven't tried the Mastodon web app on Android (and barely used it on desktop).

I don’t notice these issues on my laptop, but it’s a faster computer than my phone, so that makes sense.
