Chef's kiss (as usual).

@gandersocial.ca and @eurosky.social getting closer isn’t interesting because ATProto suddenly discovered interoperability. It didn’t. What’s interesting is two distinct communities deciding how they want to use it while keeping their own infrastructure, moderation and identity.

@gandersocial.ca I'm very curious about what will be involved in this connection. Will Gander open up to the public Atmosphere, meaning that not just Eurosky but also users on Bluesky, Blacksky, Northsky, W Social, or their own self-hosted PDS will also be able to see and interact with Gander users?

Or will there be some kind of custom connection with Eurosky where Eurosky / Mu has access to your private offline ATProto network? I'm hoping it's the former because I'm a champion of the open social web, but either option sounds interesting. Looking forward to it!

It sure would. And we are avidly following a lot of that work. The intention is to be fully interoperable (development started on that this week). We've always designed Gander in such a way that we can introduce interoperability. Most likely it will be a staged process as we sort through things.

Hi @caesar.dev , Guys, Thought you may be interested in this comment about the inter-networking between PDS operators. mu.social/profile/simo... I keep coming back to this (potential) org as the coordinator across the atmosphere. blog.plcred.org/3mwlphq42d227 Bit like watching AT&T being reborn 😶

That was interesting. You didn't mention the other PDS operators had no reciprocal arrangements. No mention of "network services" on bsky.app/settings or blacksky.community/settings So who coordinates the development of inter-network services?

An association of PDS operators is an interesting idea, but it is not the purpose of the plcred.org. Their sole purpose is to be an independent entity to manage the plc.directory. In principle PLC is not Atmosphere-specific. It is a DID type which could be used by anyone for any purpose.

Well. Not "sole purpose". Its a starting point. We can agree to disagree on this one point. And technically, re: DID, you're quite correct. But "the networks have started to talk". The directory is one commonly shared INTEROPERABLE resource. Should have seen the early days of WC3.
