I was recently the target of a sophisticated phishing scam where the attacker posed as a representative of PSB Academy in Singapore. The nature of the inquiry was an invitation to present a lecture on experimental music and contemporary opera. #phishing #scam #academia #composer

"Projects such as your cosmic opera film and your chamber pieces for arts institutions show a practice that treats composition as part of a wider artistic and conceptual whole …" The baited language was so specific to my professional music career that they got me to schedule a call with them.

Looking back, right in the very first email, with a little bit of research, I would have avoided this whole thing much sooner. But it bypassed my suspicion on first glance quite well, which I am now embarrassed to admit.

After scheduling a call with calendly, this link was the giveaway … a spoof of a streamyard.com link, which is a legitimate conferencing platform, but on closer inspection, the actual domain name extension is .live
