Beautiful morning in the Eastern Sierra as weather systems affect the area. (Slight chances of snow later today. #photo #photography #photoOfTheDay #lensCulture #landscapePhotography #photographyLovers #naturePhotography #fineArtPhotography #nature #mountainmonday #sierranevada #mountains.

Nice! We were thinking of going to the east side on the 24th, but from what I'm reading everything is peaking one or two weeks earlier than usual. What's your read on it?

Hue, to my mind the 24th of October is usually too late for aspens. Michael Frye persuaded me a few years back that you can still color in the third week of October, but you have to search. Right now most of the high elevation color is over, though it is good lower.

Thanks. Our first trip there was the weekend of 10/24/12 (wedding anniversary) and it wasn’t bad, but that was the only time we’d seen it good that late.

Update for you Joe: We came home 10/15. Yesterday there were still some colorful trees in parts of Lundy canyon, but the popular grove in the upper canyon is done. There are still some green trees around, but not many — we saw some yesterday on the June Lake loop and today driving thru Yosemite.

I think you must have gotten very lucky on that visit! Normally the peak (which is an amorphous concept that depends on location and elevation) is more like the first week on October, arguably extending into week two of the month. We are definitely past the peak now
