Sometimes a simply photograph containing no icons captures a feeling about a place and a time — like this one from David Hoffman.

Morning Walk - Springville, California (2022) #landscapephotography #rural #photooftheday

…photograph this little stream for a couple of decades. It lies along a road in the Eastern Sierra Nevada where I often photograph fall color and occasionally go to access backcountry trailheads. At the right moment of the day and season, it is surrounded by very colorful aspen trees.

…photograph. If I recall correctly, we went out looking for coffee and some pastry (or was it lunch?) in Bath. We heard about a little place that was supposed to be popular and headed that direction. It was just a bit outside the…

A (successful) experiment in how little must actually be in a photograph for it to work. Mick Houghton photograph. (Perhaps also a little reminder to the “sharpest lens” people about what actually makes a photograph work.)

…photograph of the day. These trees grow in what feels like high desert terrain along the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada. This is essentially “sage brush country,” though as the elevation rises there are increasing numbers of conifers. Being east of the crest of the…

Interesting photograph from Peter Durst which, among other things, reminds me that it is now over 25 years since I saw the Yukon. I. Need. To. Go. Back.

Some thoughts about the #apple #iphoneduo … If you just need a phone, it probably isn’t for you. There are less-expensive options, smaller options, options with better cameras, etc. But… If, like me, you use iPhone and an #iPad, the #duo could be interesting and less costly, provided that…

…there is a good keyboard option for the duo and that it is powerful enough for what you usually do on the iPad. (Email, movies, browsing, social media, etc. are probably fine. Editing large Photoshop/Lightroom files probably not.) For people who travel and prefer to light, the idea of replacing…

…two devices (phone and iPad) with one is pretty attractive. And the cost of the duo looks more reasonable compared to the cost of an iPhone plus and iPad. I’m not rushing to buy one though. I want to see how the new technology fares “in the trenches” first, and how Apple improves the next version.

…probably explains its popularity. Only steps apart you have “baths” dating back to the Roman era, a large central church, shopping districts, and more. Walk a little further and there’s a river, plenty of places to eat, and increasingly less tourist-oriented…

Not easy to catch a waterfall’s torrent at exactly the right moment. “Finding Donna” managed to do it here.

Today's #blueskyartshow theme is #walls How about a Wall of Water at the base of Telluride's Bridal Veil Falls. Wiped the spatter off the lens like tears from my eyes. Emotionally charged images this year. #eck #waterfall #colorado #classicmono #blackandwhite #photography

…held together long enough to occupy the sky above Mono Lake at sunset. The long shadow of the Sierra stretched across the foreground shoreline and tufa formations, and in the distance the earth’s shadow is visible above basin and range mountains.

Example from @NYTimes demonstrates why writing isn’t easy: “He arrived in the glass box reserved for defendants with a purple bruise under one eye and wearing the black T-shirt that he was arrested in.” Do they really reserve a box for defendants with a purple bruise under one eye?

I know, slightly political. But this is why I left Facebook and the rest of the META world behind over a year ago.

NEW: New Mexico AG, @nmdoj.bsky.social, just announces that a judge has issued a judgment in the amount of $25 BILLION against Meta for lying to consumers and users about how Meta collected, protected, shared, and used their personal information.

This photograph from Robin and Arlene Karan reminds me that the snow geese will soon be lifting off like this in my neck of the woods. :-)

Two things. We love Scotland but have not (yet) been to the Isle of Lewis. And it is remarkable how much this terrain reminds me of parts of my own California coast. (Damian Shields photograph.)

This Albert Dros photograph is visually fascinating and tells a story of change.

Albert Dros@albertdros.bsky.social

This is reality. The old Dutch landscape versus the new. This was an early morning last week on the Dutch countryside. While I am not a big fan of the massive turbines in the landscape, in this particular scene it looks somewhat unreal and spectacular.

…Eastern Sierra drainage for several decades. It is safe to say that I know the area pretty well at this point. Yet I still find new views that I had missed before — some, like this one, are in such obvious places that it is almost embarrassing that I did not see them! I have literally…
