Why does the #BBC insist on deadnaming Czechia and Turkiye? If British people can smuggly condescend anyone who can't untangle Great Britain, UK, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Britain and the British Isles, I'm sure they can figure out "Czechia". itv trusts them to...

You're criticising a British media outlet for not using the correct toponymy for Czechia and Türkiye. And then you've included Ireland in a list of British toponynms - including the term 'British Isles' which some still controversially use to describe the entire archipelago of Britain and Ireland.

I was saying that we live in a fairly convoluted collection of countries, regions, etc... that are often confused by foreigners. Blue Sky does have a character limit so I had to cut some nuance. I didn't realise British Isles was particularly controversial, but then I'm not a major broadcaster.

Yes and I'm pointing out that your collection of nations/"countries"/regions (British terminology is certainly confusing) has nothing to do with Ireland. Yes 'British Isles' is an archaic and offensive term when used in reference to Ireland. The term isn't recognised by the government of Ireland...

So if a foreign broadcaster put "British Isles Lions" instead of "British and Irish Lions" then they would be wrong? . A bit like using "Czech Republic" or "Turkey"
