there is no such thing as the neutral observer in journalism. there is no such thing as "objective journalism". These ideas are just bullshit marketing meant to make you think their work is somehow better than someone who openly cares about the subjects they investigate and report on.

ill be honest i think muckraking journalism should be the default and attempts at "objective" journalism should be laughed off the fact that its got enough derision among the gentry elite that the term emerged as an insult is a testament to the degree that mainstream journalism is a joke

also probably like... super dangerous to promote these ideas as if they're real? especially for minorities. in trans journalism for example it pretty much just means people automatically write off anything you have to say because you're trans - there's no way you could be objective...

and like... who the fuck else is doing this work??? The only cis people I see regularly writing about trans issues are bigots. maybe we don't want to give them the entire floor through this bullshit nonsense of "objective journalism" and "neutral observers"????

it's actually cool and okay to care about the things you're investigating and reporting on. It actually makes your work better to be personally invested rather than just going through the motions to collect a pay check. every single piece of journalism considered incredible followed the above.
