Been doing research on the job market for devs: and it's still a weird market. Job openings are up, but devs don't seem to feel that it's a much better market? Meanwhile, companies are also struggling to fill roles. Take this full remote (US) sr eng role at $155-184K salary at a nonprofit. 0% AI:

Have you compared senior vs junior openings? My understanding is the market is kinda lopsided because companies don’t want to train juniors. So junior roles are super rare and senior roles more in demand. I have no numbers though this is all anecdotal

UK dev here, been applying for a few weeks now. Quite a few mid & senior roles available, but whenever I apply, I hear nothing. Literally nothing. No rejections, no updates, nothing. I can only assume recruiters are struggling to keep up with applications

Also worthy of note that my junior colleagues saying there aren’t any jobs available in the first places. Like, count on one hand, in terms of opportunities over the past few weeks.

Friends at places like Spotify, Etsy, or any NYC company say they still get several thousand resumes for any role they open The ratio between devs needing a role and open roles is still rough

I wonder if it's not feeling like a better market because while job openings are up, perhaps layoffs are also up, so there's still more competition? Purely speculative

Do you control for "ghost jobs"? Not sure if that's even possible, but could be part of the explanation. Another part is that it's all senior roles. Even with the massive title inflation at this point, still might be that most devs finding it hard are junior-mid?
