sorry i need to publicly be a hater for a second but what do you mean the giant 230k+ signature save mass effect petition is only about the IP and not the devs that were laid off

i just think this still errs on the side of the game existing without its core visionaries. it shouldn't just exist "no matter what". having the original team jettisoned and replaced with randos is almost pointless

Spot on. It’s wild to watch thousands of people rally to save a corporate brand name while completely ignoring the developers who lost their livelihoods. Without those creators, the IP is just a hollow label anyway.

As someone who loves the trilogy... Exodus and the new Expanse video game are RIGHT. THERE. Also, mass effect is just "What if reality worked like liberals thought it worked?" with a bit of white savior sprinkled here and there. You play as a zero accountability cop who can murder anyone they want

Yeah it's why I didn't sign it, Mass Effect is my all time favourite, but I want the Devs as well. All smells a bit of the "Bioware hasn't been Bioware for a long time" bs that I despise with all my heart.

I thought it was about both? Like, save the game by letting the devs finish it. Let the devs do their job. Game isn't going to work without the devs!

The text of the petition does state as much in either purposed solution, and the second outright suggest licensing out the IP. People should be yelling at EA, but so much of the conversation has basically no understanding of development realities.

I have generally seen a lot of misguided "let Larian do DA" and Owl Cat do ME" nonsense, and those are fine studios but there is NO DA or ME without at least some of the same BW people. DA especially is made up of the idiosyncrasies and sensibilities of their team even as the team changed over time

Them doing ME/DA wouldn't play to their respective strengths as studios either. For instance Owlcat has made its name on adapting tabletop RPGs to the video games and neither ME nor DA are that kind of game.

Maybe a hot take but I hated Boring Story Empty World Gun Skyrim as a successor to the Fallout franchise. The moral I learned is that people just want their treats. Larian did a great job hitting the BG vibe and I'd still have loved Divinity and BG being their own things with their own teams.

Sucks that it's the largest one. Kind of hard to restart at this point, tho. I guess the big voices can just add that they don't agree with that part... Wow. This is just really sad. I signed it, and did read it, but must have just missed or misunderstood that part.

I think most people signing are clear about what they want and why, Mass Effect is made by the BioWare team and it's about them for most of us. Maybe not all, but it's a good rallying cry and every bit helps I had the same concern originally for sure, save Mass Effect yes--but most of all the devs

There might be some people who signed with that mindset, but I feel the majority are of the mind of they want the devs who started on the project to finish what they started. That's why I signed it.

It's giving the same vibes as people asking George RR Martin to his face when he's gonna give A Song Of Ice And Fire to Brandon Sanderson or whoever to finish for him. Like, way to tell a human being they don't matter beyond their capacity to create for your consumption.

Wait... How do you save the game but not help the people who made it?? When I saw the petition I totally thought they wanted to save the game and Bioware (what was left of it) so they can continue to make these titles. I don't understand how you can save it without the devs that made THAT trailer.

With that thinking EA will keep the IP and just have someone else make the titles. Thinking you can save a game/studio without the devs is ridiculous. The devs are only ones who know the full details of Mass Effect Universe and the IP's future.

That's literally what (one of the/the largest of the) petitions is for: to have EA either give the IP to a new studio or create a studio to give it to so they'll keep making the games, rather than just shelve it.

that's like every single one of these dumbass petitions. how can you be surprised in 2026 that all people care about is the IP and not the people making the games

thank you for sharing Kala's post! as she mentioned, we tried to find common ground with the person who created it to petition, with no success. They do not speak for most of us. We originally also added BioWare's name in the Times Sq billboard and they denied it due to copyright

this has always been about more than just the game, its about the people behind it who have poured their blood, sweat and tears for us. This fight will always be about them

Obligatory- i know the whole movement isn’t like that. I’ve talked to Kala! But im just so shocked by the people that wrote the petition. All that leaked that you want is by those people. You want that, you need them for that. How do you think games are made. Christ.

WTF! I signed the petition like day one & sure af want the same people working on it! My hope was for a Telltale closure situation like what happened with the last two episodes of season 4 of their Walking Dead game. Skybound started a temp studio and hired as many of the TT devs back as possible

Most of us feel that way, I initially didn't sign on Friday because of the "two paths forward" bit, but with everyone putting their support behind it jumped in Sunday. It's a good rallying cry, for most of us it's about the devs first and getting them a chance to go forward
