One old trick in politics is to oppose something possible while calling for something impossible. Example: Here's Gavin Newsom leading the charge for a "national billionaires tax" while he and his paid goons work to kill a state billionaire tax. This allows him to be on both sides for 2028.

Low-information Democrats will lap this up. "Wow, Gavin fights the billionaires!" In reality, Gavin is previewing his 2028 strategy: fake populist-talking billionaire tool. (Don't worry, billionaires: President Gavin would never actually push a national billionaire tax)

On the flip side, a creative political brain could exploit this two-faced confusion to push the state billionaire tax. "Even Gov. Gavin Newsom supports a billionaire tax..." Let them fact check the straddle.

Newsom Nix (NOO-səm niks), noun 1. A political maneuver in which one loudly champions an unachievable version of a reform in order to quietly kill the achievable one. 2. The art of occupying both sides of an issue by ensuring that the side you appear to favor has no chance of success.

“Gavin’s for a billionaire’s tax…but not THAT way” Easy way to be for something without ever having to follow through and implement a policy. There will always be something that’s a dealbreaker.
