I have a pretty broad understanding of human history, and I cannot think of a time when such a huge percentage of a society was so ready to form a popular resistance and yet was so utterly failed by the incompetent fools who could ostensibly lead it.

I’ve been saying for years that elected Dems need to #EmbraceTheBase ! This constant rhetoric about pivoting towards people who hate them for existing is bad strategy, bad politics, and bad for morale. It’s corrosive to political engagement to have leadership that constantly sells you short.

Sometime in the 1990s or so, Democrats saw how Republicans juiced turnout by appealing to their base and went, “Wow, we should do that, too! We should appeal to the Republican base!”
