If this were happening somewhere else, we would call them what they are: Internally Displaced People.

1/ I know queer folks here in Maryland who are helping resettle trans folks here from red states as well as a couple of trans refugees who are here now. We trans folks are a tiny minority within the US and I wish more cis folks would take the threats we face seriously and do more to help protect us

I know a family who left my state after the election. He was a gay, adoptive parent of two girls and he didn't want to raise them here. He's considering leaving the country now. If I could have left I would have.

Not transgender but this brown-skinned, foreign born citizen spent a year in New England away from my “neighbors” in coastal GA. I couldn’t even let my relatives stay in my coastal condo because I was afraid my “good Christian” neighbors would call ICE. Been a citizen for 77 years but still afraid.

I landed on internal refugee over internally displaced person bc the latter sounds so sterile. Refugee conjures up homelessness and extreme poverty with slim odds for improvement, which is accurate association for trans internal refugees. Internal is an important qualifier for the reasons you gave.
