It should never be forgotten who founded Tortoise. If hard-line Conservative James Harding does to the Observer what he did to BBC News & Current Affairs, the paper will soon be no more ‘liberal’ than the Sunday Express.

Sorry for being so dim and not already across this, but is Haroon Siddique also The Guardian legal correspondent? And therefore subordinate on the paper to Chief Guardian Editor Kath Viner who is on the other side of this and who also sits on The Scott Trust Ltd board?

Thank you and respect to these exceptional individuals, and indeed all of the other hundred signatories. Haroon Siddique is a particular name of note, given the Scott Trust Director title.

There may be good arguments for selling the Observer to Tortoise. But, it is hard to have any confidence in the process if the Scott Trust won't engage with its journalists and production staff to address what appear to be perfectly valid concerns.

Is it just me or is the Guardian app somehow 'burying' these last three very important letters signed by journalists? We've really had to search for each of them on the app, already knowing of their existence. Some letters get good prominence, these appear to have been given the opposite treatment.

Here is my own response to a response letter from The Guardian (Bespoke Communication, ironically - do they know what bespoke means?) just now. I shan't trouble you with their generic bit, but you will have a fair idea. (The Guardian letter is of course available from me if desired.)
