i will get hate for this but: all posts on here are public anyway. it is important to verify this account so people know specifically it is real and they shouldnt fuck with it fact that it is the most blocked account is a good sign everything is working well, banning it would make bluesky a target

Bluesky allows and verifies the government ICE account For all of it's "API decentralization" it's still acting like one giant centralized server, which makes it politically difficult to ban the account (just like Twitter) On Mastodon, any reasonable server would just ban the account. Done. Easy.

mastodon is different bc the lack of a central accountable entity and relatively small user base on each server means the feds dont really care if they have an account on every one this leads to a lot of UX problems though, which is a big part of why atproto is growing much faster than activitypub

i personally admire peoples willingness to come on here and very publicly mock this terrorist organization on a platform where everything you say is public, as an affirmation to our right to free speech just dont make any actionable threats or youre playing with fire

I agree; but verifying, it’s lets them recognise (and be able to boot) fake ICE accounts. To leave this account unverified is to leave them “masked”.

definitely not, there's no need to let them spread their propaganda further. banning them wouldn't really have any consequences.

Exactly what I said, but I tried to frame it as "if an authoritarian government of a place where you have operations wants to fuck you up, they will, don't give them the pretence of reason to" Mastodon is absolutely not immune to these assholes rolling up on their flagship server.
