Not only this, but housing is deflating in value in rural areas? at least in germany it does due to overaging population and further urban concentration. guess this might be similar in gb?

Another excellent, clearly explained article. I've been telling my children to see our house as a "safe haven" from any economic disasters they may have in the future, rather than selling it as an asset.

That’s a good analysis. I would’ve liked to have seen some analysis of the big house builders role. They have an influence in the sense that they hoard land banks, and build when the market is buoyant but don’t when it is not. It has an equalising effect on prices.

I wrote a little about this in a recent piece on Burnham's decision to bring back right to buy - and how much it inflated the big developers' profits. Might be worth a longer read now the policy is definitely coming back

"Far-right parties and movements in today's Britain naturally exploit the cost-of-living crisis. But when younger left-wing activists shift the blame to "boomers," I weep."

"I think of working-class communities, especially in northern England and Wales, where so many people's lives were devastated in the 1980s as Margaret Thatcher waged war on trade unions and industries closed down."
