boycott it so your trans friends don’t get a sick feeling in their stomach when they come over to your house for a party & see a stack of HP merch on your bookshelf, politely excuse themselves a bit early without saying anything, and then go home feeling just a little degraded

"JK Rowling is already a billionaire and everyone already knows about Harry Potter, what's the point of boycotting?" Nobody thinks boycotting will bankrupt her. We know she's gonna die rich. We're just asking you to show a shred of solidarity with trans folk. Absolute low bar bare minimum shit.

We tossed my wife’s old HP books for exactly this reason. We have a number of friends in the community and didn’t want any of them to feel uncomfortable. And I do mean tossed. As in into the trash. We usually donate all our old books, but those went to the garbage

I made a point of not keeping the books I’ve owned since childhood off my shelves because she doesn’t even deserve that private recognition for her hatred of my trans friends. There’s an argument to be made for dead authors, I do love Poe, but living authors need standards

Not for nothing, suits are all fucking cowards, and will drop a property on a dime if they get spooked about it losing money. It's mostly coasting by on nostalgia, a rough start mixed with growing disdain could be enough to sink it. She'll quit funding hate far before she's hard up for cash.

It's like people buying nazi regalia and showing them in their home and when asked about it just smiling and saying "oh the nazis are long gone and I just think they look cool, I'm a bit of a history buff haha"

My Harry Potter books and DVDs were thrown in the trash years ago. My only regret is I didn't throw them in an oil drum and light them on fire... I was already on my way out after the last two movies but an IRL friend coming out as trans was the push I needed. Her vs HP? A no brainer!!

I definitely think nothing should be bought anymore No game no movie no merch. But in saying that I also am not going to judge you if you still have the books or the movies from your childhood. Things can still hold value and memories to you ,not gonna force you to get rid of stuff like that yk?

I've been trying to figure out what to do about the HP books I already have in my collection. I'd burn them if that didn't feel gross. I think I'm gonna recover them and give them special, painted covers. ;3 (Think trans flags and renamed titles)

gonna be honest seeing any kind of merch is going to leave a sick feeling in my stomach, bookshelves are for books and strange knick knacks like an ostrich egg and pretty rocks

There are trans people who are still alive today because Harry Potter gave them an escape. Demanding every trans ally shun HP just tells them you think they'd be better off *dead* than giving a fraction of a cent to an anti-trans billionaire. Boycotting an HBO show isn't praxis, is performative.
