I had to put my podcast on hiatus due to my busy work and teaching schedules, but did you know I did 15 episodes covering the entirety of the adventure gaming genre earlier this year? Here's the script for Episode 16, which covers many modern adventure games (point and click, FMV and more!).

Here's the first part of the series, where I talk about the surprising origins of the adventure game genre starting with a largely unknown figure named Stephen Bishop - an enslaved self-educated black man who guided people through Mammoth Cave... ...the very setting of Colossal Cave Adventure!

Here's the episode I did on Telltale Games and their influence on modern adventure gaming, which led to series like Life is Strange. But I also cover Walking Simulators in this episode! They're a oft-forgotten offshoot of the 3D adventure game.
I covered a lot of the classic Myst-styled games here (you can scan the article - no need to listen!) In the modern day, I'd recommend The Room, The House of Da Vinci, The Talos Principle, What Remains of Edith Finch and Eastshade. All of 'em are great! Not sure why so many start with "The" tho.
