I had to put my podcast on hiatus due to my busy work and teaching schedules, but did you know I did 15 episodes covering the entirety of the adventure gaming genre earlier this year? Here's the script for Episode 16, which covers many modern adventure games (point and click, FMV and more!).

greatestgames.substack.comSeason 1, Episode 16 – The Adventure Where Seeing is Believing, Part 14Listen now | Let's talk about recent attempts to grow and evolve the genre of adventure gaming in the 21st century and see who brought the point and click adventure back to life!

Here's the first part of the series, where I talk about the surprising origins of the adventure game genre starting with a largely unknown figure named Stephen Bishop - an enslaved self-educated black man who guided people through Mammoth Cave... ...the very setting of Colossal Cave Adventure!

greatestgames.substack.comSeason 1, Episode 1: The Adventure of Imagination (Part 1)This week, we delve into text-based adventure games from North America, exploring their origins and talking about some of the best you should play!

I covered a lot of the classic Myst-styled games here (you can scan the article - no need to listen!) In the modern day, I'd recommend The Room, The House of Da Vinci, The Talos Principle, What Remains of Edith Finch and Eastshade. All of 'em are great! Not sure why so many start with "The" tho.

greatestgames.substack.comSeason 1, Episode 10 – The Adventure Where Seeing is Believing, Part 8Myst and The 7th Guest kicked off a whole wave of 1990s pre-rendered adventure games we've gotta talk about, including The Journeyman Project, Mission Critical, Black Dahlia and the Tex Murphy games!
