I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

especially if you show up and aren't an asshole. Then when you do get more excited about something... They were going to pass a thing making it illegal to camp outside and oh, somehow 30+ folks showed up. Unanimously defeated. RW showed up on social media spewing, but showing up worked.

True except for the part where it's not all you gotta do, because if you do it effectively people will start calling you and wanting you to do things, whether it's be on committees or running for office. Your life will be local politics, before you've even entirely noticed.

In 2021 my wife started a birdwatching group, which led to her getting involved with local parks, which led to organizing a push for a bird-friendly construction ordinance, which means in 4 years she went from "hey, a warbler!" to texting with the mayor-elect last night. Just show up! Get involved!

Local politics is the place where you can effect the most real & immediate change! Like, yes, still call your Congresspeople, but also? Pay attention to school board, mayoral, city council, county exec, and other smaller seats bc they have a direct impact on your life.
