In fact I will say the Earnest and Pious Charismatic Ethnic Minority political figure (AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed) has been a pretty good bet for the American left so far, whereas the Disaffected Gruff White Guy Showcasing True Masculinity (Fetterman, Platner) has been a worse bet. Just an observation.
Yeah start insinuating he has morning chai rather than coffee, say that he knocks things for 6 rather than hits a home run, allege that he is generally a clean living good boy who loves his mother and prays every Friday (pejorative).
This report has a lot more information than that one less-than-credible accusations against Trump. If people read (I know, it's an impossible ask), you'll see there are three more I would deem extremely well-evidenced and credible.
We have near final results from Brazil, 99.8% reporting:
Lula 51.76%
Bolsonaro 48.24%
In 2022, Lula beat Bolsonaro's father by 1.8%; so he has nearly doubled his lead.
Also, if you followed this thread & enjoyed it... be sure to follow me: I'll be tracking 700 US elections at once in 9 days!
Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.
This thread comes to a close...
... as we now have a final result.
Let the records show that, with 92% of the vote countywide, Lula is up 3.3%. (Can he end up doubling his 2022 margin?)
Lula has flipped the state of Amapa, which he lost to Jair Bolsonaro in the 2022 runoff by 3 percentage points.
He will win it today; he is ahead by 6 percentage points with 99% of precincts reporting. He'd finished ahead by a hair in the first round, 45.7% to 45.7%.
Freedom of movement is the most fundamental human right; everything else is built on top of it. The 20th century was a campaign to smother that freedom and we should not let it win
looking at early voting and mail-in-voting data is a path to madness. i do not think it is *impossible* to see something meaningful in this data if you are an expert practitioner but it is very difficult and you are much more likely to see what you want to see (or what you fear)
They are destroying the administrative state & throwing all of us to the wolves. Doesn't matter if you voted for them or not, MAGA/MAHA are driving us into a chaotic, deadly, pre-20th century wilderness of no aid for states devastated by disasters; no regulation...

El-Sayed: "People like Vance think America is too small for some of us. I think America is big enough. America has been big enough include people whose families came, were here before anybody else showed up, or who were brought here despite themselves. His view of America is small -- small like him"
We have to think about collapsing Trump poll numbers and Rs turning on him the same way we'd think about finally being able to corner a rabid raccoon in your garage. Good news: he's out of options. Bad news: he's a rabid raccoon.
π³ Trump loses it and SNAPS at a string of reporters, says Ilhan Omar might "go to jail," calls Somalia "a shit house," and boasts that thanks to a new program he announced today Americans "will make millions of dollars by turning others in" during absolutely deranged Oval Office event

Palestinian skateboarder in Gaza doing a kickflip over an unexploded US-made (in Garland, Texas) Mk. 84 2000lb aerial bomb, provided to Israel as one of many tens of thousands of aerial bombs in the 1,000 and 2,000lb class included in US military assistance.
π― βRussia is providing intel on US bases in the Middle East to Iran so it can kill US soldiers there. Trump doesn't care about these deaths because he considers US soldiers killed in action as βsuckersβ and βlosers.β Other Republicans clearly donβt care about them eitherβ¦.β
Key lies in Trump's stmt: 1) diesel is up due to Iran's blockage of the Straight of Hormuz, which resulted from his vanity war with Iran (#EpsteinFury); 2) Russia is providing intel on US bases in the Middle East to Iran so it can kill US soldiers there. Trump doesn't care about these deaths ...
Repeating my pet hobby horse: next medical visit have your titers run for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, pertussis & varicella (chicken pox). Immunity can wane (incl chicken pox). Get boosters as needed.
SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.
βSince its creation after 9/11, there has never been an ICE officer killed in the line of duty, but dozens of elementary school students have been killed in shootings. Firearms remain the leading cause of death for American children β more than motor vehicle crashes.β
This week a white nationalist tried to assassinate a member of Congress and you probably didnβt even hear about itβand a reminder that being an elementary school student in the US is more deadly than being an ICE officer: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/three-shoo...
Anyway, good case study here. You can be as evil as you want, you can kill as many people as is possible, you can shove churro ladies into vans then off to black sites in countries they've never even heard of, but if you can't do the performance of fascism β that's when you're in real trouble.
ICYMI: Until six months ago, White House press secretary Katie Zacharia worked with an organization that wants to prosecute people who have abortions for homicideβyes, throw women in prison. And last year, she claimed that abortion pills have ties to Nazi Germany.

i do not meaningfully care about this argument but my stance remains: i refuse to generate unpaid content for elon musk the child pornographer, and to model the behavior that lets elon's algorithm show me the optimal unpaid content he wants me to see. it's interesting that you want to do that though
Ossoff's superpower is that he correctly thinks his opponent is a contemptible piece of shit and he is willing to explain why in clear and direct language.

Republicans donβt like markets anymore than they like meritocracy. What they like is very specific kinds of inequality that can be achieved through markets and meritocracy. But if they arenβt then those things arenβt worth it.
