On Fri night, Brooklyn court staff forced a woman to give birth inside the courtroom. Per public defenders, she gave birth in handcuffs, unable to reposition herself, unable to pick up her infant. The men who’d shackled her looked on. The judge lauded the birth of a ‘beautiful baby’ on the record.

Speakers talked not just about the woman forced to give birth in a courtroom, but other people who have died in custody.

A speaker said the woman who was forced to give birth in the courtroom was picked up for trespassing -- on her own roof. Other speakers talked about people being picked up for jumping subway turnstiles.

Honestly, trespassing in areas that are not personal property should not even be enforced by law enforcement unless substantial criminal conduct is done on the property (e.g. unauthorized hunting). It should be more a way for companies to not have to make maintenance areas safe to the public.
