This can fuck off entirely.

The Singapore-based startup says its AI-powered platform can halve graphic novel production time and cost. “This is not a self-driving car,” notes CEO Anumeha Bisaria. “It’s more like handing a Ferrari to someone who already knows how to drive.” buff.ly/YOXZgZY

If you hand the keys to a Ferrari to someone that knows how to drive but without any proper training, they’re gonna grind that gearbox to dust and wrap themselves around a telephone pole. This is a post about artificial intelligence graphic novels.

These clowns want to cede the most important decisions in comics storytelling to a fucking bot. And you know this would lead to further underpayment of artists. Boycott any book or publisher that uses this.

Do you know how many generations of staff I have talked to about this? Amazon categories are NOT USEFUL for comics! We may be required to use them as approximation on their site but if we control the terms? Artists are co-authors! Comics don't exist till they've been drawn!

"But Kristy, illustrator sounds classy/important/special." No, it sounds dismissive and like we don't appreciate the craft! The skill! The sheer amount of work and thought that goes into sequential art!

🫩 aside from everything else that sucks about this, I hate the complete disregard of the fact that novels and comics are a different medium that needs to have their story beats adapted and presented differently

I know graphic novels/comic books have always been seen as a low effort form of entertainment, but this is just scraping the barrel at the expense of humans. It's not like all those people who are not making comics can pay to read them once they are made by the random number machine.

I should also say that recently, like the last 10-15 years or so specifically, the quality of so many graphic novels has gone through the roof, and I don't know if this is just a culture change or if new digital art tools or what caused this but it's pretty neat to watch.

We're all pretending that George Jetson actually knew stuff when he showed up to the Sprocket factory to push the button before going to take a nap.

Don’t we all aspire to make enough money to buy a Ferrari and then hand it over to someone else to drive? How are all of these CEOs so stupid
