At this "A.i." hearing at the NYC City Hall and so far it's all goofy talk about Skynet/Terminator "A.i." superintelligence scenarios and nothing about actual massive current harms of regular schmegular trash "A.i."

The Meta rep is doing a little ad for Muse while saying "super intelligence" instead of "artificial intelligence." Deeply unserious.

None of the "A.i." companies sent anyone to testify in person. They're all on video. Disrespectful and unserious.

This hearing thus far is a waste that helps the companies. They WANT to talk about bullshit AGI sci fi scenarios - they DON'T want to talk about current harms from their slop tech like theft from creators, cognitive decline, fraud, environmental damage, disinfo, and links to murder and suicide.

Menin is getting little soundbite zingers where the companies are dodging the request to quantify catastrophic risk. But it feels like a song and dance to avoid real questions about real current harm.

Menin does a good thing by asking if the companies have liability insurance for catastrophic harm committed by their products. They did not answer. She said so I guess you're expecting the public to pay for it?

One of these company reps keeps talking about technical issues and laughing about it. I'm not amused! You clowns are supposedly deploying miracle tech! No technical issues allowed!

Facebook rep is still saying "super intelligence" and still doing little ads for Muse. Contemptible. He also is trying to claim "A.i." is gonna be great for small businesses. I'm a small business! This shit sucks!

Carmen de la Rosa asked about what these companies are doing for artists who are being exploited/displaced. And these clowns are just dodging. "Meta takes creativity and copyright very seriously." Come ON.

OpenAI is blabbing about partnerships with news orgs. "We're willing to work with creators... including ways that their content can be incorporated into our outlets." COME ON. WE WANT NOTHING TO YOU WITH YOU CREEPS. PAY US FOR WHAT YOU STOLE AND DELETE OUR WORK FROM YOUR DATABASES.

Krishnan is asking a good question about New Yorkers having retirement funds tied up with "A.i." and if there's a crash what the fuck happens. "How can you ensure that you are not too big to fail?" Companies are just blathering and dodging. Talking about their tools, etc.

This Meta guy keeps saying "personal super intelligence" instead of "A.i." Absolute clown. Sucking up to Trump. Krishnan is attacking them for dodging. Good for him.

Dinowitz asks a good ? about "A.i." directed at kids, mentions cognitive decline, cheating. OpenAI lady keeps saying "OpenAI takes [X] very seriously." Dinowitz asks if their models can write whole essays for kids. She just says kids under 13 can't use it. Doesn't answer when he asks about 13-18.

Dinowitz pushes these companies to address whether they'll keep their products from churning out essays for kids. They won't answer. Just blabbing. Meta talks about "absolutely taking seriously" the cognitive damage issues. So... saying nothing at all here.

These company reps are starting to sound like bots repeating each others' talking points. "we take it very seriously" They all take privacy very seriously, just so you know! Very! Seriously!
