Not only to DO this, but then tell the story to a REPORTER? As if it was a GOOD THING? Not okay in any way.

Another terrible aspect of this is that Mayer treated this like a college application question, as if she's supposed to credentialize her kid as "creative" and "empathetic." But as a parent, when you're asked this, you're getting a chance to tell the teacher what your kid NEEDS.

This isn't about SHOWING OFF - this is about helping your kid get the guidance and support they need and deserve at school. But "A.i." just treated it like some bullshit recommendation line on an application form.

Look, every parent fucks up sometimes. We're all human; humans are imperfect; we're all making mistakes. But don't preemptively fuck up by using a goddamn chatbot to parent. Just be present with your kid. Jesus wept.

Jesus. "To Mayer, outsourcing some of the mental load to the machines isn’t a bad thing. (At one point, she mused enthusiastically about the potential efficiency gains of having her A.I. assistant talk directly to her husband’s A.I. assistant)." www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/s...

'When I asked Mayer if it’s somewhat depressing to imagine a frictionless future when birthday celebrations, holiday gifts and family vacations are planned by A.I., she seemed caught off guard. '“I haven’t really thought that through,” she said.' Yeah. We noticed. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/s...

I wonder if this seems less alien to insanely rich people, because up to now they’ve been outsourcing planning these things to a human assistant? (…and now I’m wondering how much of their enthusiasm is for getting to cut back on their assistants’/nannies’ hours)

It's very eye-opening to talk to people like who are very much inside the bubble. They truly don't conceive of any downsides to outsourcing every aspect of their lives.

if you just have ais talking to each other instead of any actual interaction, why do you (pretend to) have a relationship at all? youre offloading what is supposed to be the stuff we have more time for. automate the long day factory so we can play kalimba in a cover band and have orgies, goddamnit
