when people talk about the massive failure of RTD2 doctor who the one heavily criticised decision that i will defend is opening on space babies. the show is for children and i think its good for the writers to actually remember that. the problem is the episode is terrible but lol you cant win em all

if viewing demographics have changed to the point where family tv primarily for kids is unfeasible and you have to target your hardcore online fanbase of 30-60 year olds i think it's fine to just not make it anymore. lord knows the world does not need doctor who in it

i disagree that the world does not need doctor who in it. I think it needs good doctor who in it, like it needs good trek and good star wars. bt our systems for mkaing those things have eroded along with everything else.

Problem is, it was trying to do both. Its seasonal big bads were these classic era villains, the Toymaker, Sutekh, Rani and Omega. But they did Omega and Sutekh so poorly that NONE of the classic era fans liked his inclusion

The Sutekh reveal was so awful. Series 14 was building up The Doctor's granddaughter Susan, so it felt like that would be the big thing for the finale, then they just namedropped Sutekh like the viewer was supposed to know who that is

He's trying to capture the Master reveal from series 3. But it lacks the same weight. It doesnt have three years of "The Doctor is the last Time Lord" building into it. You didnt need to be hyped because it was the Master. You could be hyped because you finally get to see another Time Lord.

yeah like all the big finale moments were hugely important to the doctor's character arc in the original this is like if the sontarans coming back was the end of season hype moment lmao

Genuinely don't think there is much more interesting that can be done with Who that hasn't already been done while fitting in the box the BBC wants for it. Let it be done, it's fine.

I don't know if this is as much a demographics problem as it is an overall quality problem, I think a doctor who aimed at a slightly more mature audience (late teens to adults) has the chance to be successful, it just hasn't actually been attempted in anything more then the most half assed way,

The biggest issue I think DW faces nowadays is that it's trying to balance itself between hard core diehards, kids who don't actually watch television anymore and general audiences, and it fails to really properly appeal to any of those, the other issue is that the show has generally been pretty...

Inconsistent in episode to episode quality, ever since late moffat, which would be about a decade ago, I don't think many shows can survive can survive essentially a decade or so of being consistently middling to shit with very occasional bright spots, especially in a modern media environment.
