I thought (the rumoured) linking tariffs to VAT taxes was non sensical, but this is so much worse. Trump: Americans want to buy your bananas, but you need to buy our oranges. Other country: We don't need your oranges. Trump: OK, we'll make Americans pay more for your bananas then.
